Founded in 1930 Francisk Skorina Gomel State University is one of the oldest educational establishments of higher education and one of the biggest scientific, research and cultural centers of the region. 637 lecturers: 4 corresponding members of National Academy of Sciences, 40 Doctors of Science and 221 Candidates of Science work at the University now. More than 10000 students are trained at 11 faculties, 50 chairs in 28 specialties and 71 specializations.

     Scientific activities are carried out in 16 major fields. The University has Doctorate in 2 speciailties (Mathematical Logic, Algebra and the Theory of Numbers; the Belarusian Language) and Post-Graduate Courses in 56 specialties, 6 Learned Doctorate and Candidate Degree Councils.

     The University develops a wide international cooperation through inter-state agreements for training specialists and scientific-technical cooperation (with China, Poland, France, Germany, Italy, CIS-states), through French-Belarusian Institute of Management (together with the University Overn-Clermon-1, France), which has been working at our University since 1995.

     Our University has rich traditions in training foreign specialists. They have been trained since 1985.

     The course of studies at all the faculties lasts 5 years. The language of studies is Russian. The best graduates of the university have an opportunity to continue their education and get Master, Candidate and Doctorate degrees.

     The students who don't speak Russian study the language for a year at the Preparatory Section. After passing the exams they get a certificate that enables them to enter any higher educational institution of our country. The cost of studies at the Preparatory Section is about $1055 a year.

     The course of studies at the faculties is $1330 a year. The University provides a yearly probation for everybody having higher education at any of its chairs. The cost of the probation is $660 a year.

     Accommodation for all the foreign students is provided at the students' hostel at the cost of $20 per month .
