The GSU team successfully performed at the international olympiad

The republican stage of the 11th International Environmental Olympiad of Universities of the CIS countries was held at the International Sakharov Environmental Institute of Belarussian State University.

Nine teams of higher education institutions of our republic took part in the national selection. The team of the Francisk Skorina Gomel State University included students of the Faculty of Biology Leonid Kovpaev, Elena Konankova, Maxim Minin, Victoria Gurskaya, Ekaterina Popicheva. The team leader was Elena Vorobyeva, PhD, Associate Professor, Associate Professor of the Department of Chemistry.

The republican stage of the Olympiad consisted of creative and intellectual tests. In the nomination “The best business card” the participants got to know each other. The theoretical tour consisted of four blocks with tasks of various types related to environmental monitoring, the concept of sustainable development, energy security, and the impact of the environment on human health. During the practical tour, the participants presented to the jury projects in the field of solving the problem of the impact of motor transport on the ecology of the city.

Throughout the school year, the teams systematically carried out preparations and went to the intended goal, and therefore the result did not take long to wait. In the persistent struggle, the students of GSU confirmed not only the high level of professional training, but also the simple truth – creative and innovative people study at the university. Our team was awarded a diploma of the first degree in the nomination “The best business card”. In the practical round, the students received a diploma of the II degree. In the individual competition of the theoretical tour, Elena Konankova was awarded a diploma of the II degree.

The International Environmental Olympiad of CIS universities has been held by the International Sakharov Environmental Institute of Belarussian State University since 2007 with the support of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment of Belarus. The event is aimed at improving the quality of training specialists in the field of ecology, increasing students’ interest in research activities, as well as supporting gifted youth.
