In recent years, the widespread introduction of technology for conducting research and project work of students has become a noticeable phenomenon in additional education all over the world. The Foundation "Time for Science", St. Petersburg opened a new project "Methodological laboratory of the scientific advisor" for the further development of this type of activity of schoolchildren. The aim of the project is to create such a platform so that everyone interested in the development of research activities of schoolchildren can receive methodological support and feedback on their developments; to get acquainted with the best practices of research and project work with schoolchildren; exchange knowledge and practical experience. This Foundation supports long-term educational projects that are focused on fundamental education and research activities of schoolchildren.  It provides assistance to Gomel schoolchildren who regularly participate in the following events: "Baltic Science and Engineering Competition", "St. Petersburg Tournament of Young Mathematicians", etc. Within the framework of the initiative "Methodological laboratory of the scientific supervisor" an international webinar was held on the topic of organizing and conducting research work of students. There were heard and discussed three speeches: "On the system of research work of schoolchildren in mathematics in the Gomel region: forms, content, problems", speakers Vasiliev A.F.  and Murashko V.I.; “Projects, internships and resumes of students. Step-by-step instructions and 5 stories from our experience”, speakers Dronzik A.B., Starunova O.A, Moscow; "Technology of developing meetings with professionals at innovation exhibitions" speaker Poznyakova L. I., St. Petersburg.

In his report, Professor of the Department of Algebra and Geometry Alexander Vasiliev spoke about the creation of an effective system of research work of schoolchildren in mathematics in the Gomel region over the past 20 years by the efforts of teachers, graduate teachers, students of different years of the Faculty of Mathematics and Programming Technologies of the GSU and employees of the education department. He highlighted the main distinctive features of this system: the continuity of work within the framework of the scientific and educational model "school-university-enterprise", the role of scientific and pedagogical schools, in particular, the Gomel algebraic school, in carrying out this work, training and selection of scientific leaders for schoolchildren, tutoring for gifted schoolchildren in the chain of “schoolchildren-student-undergraduate-graduate student” and others. He also cited statistics on the results of Gomel schoolchildren in republican and international competitions.

Senior lecturer of the Department of Algebra and Geometry Vyacheslav Murashko told about the experience of interaction with the teacher of the category "Methodist" Irina Nikolaevna Goncharenko in the work with gifted students in mathematics within the framework of the branch of the Department of Algebra and Geometry in the gymnasium №71 in Gomel. He elaborated on the planning of scientific research with schoolchildren, the choice of tasks for research, and raising their level from school to international. In 2019, the works of Alexander Pechenkin and Andrey Goncharenko’s students  in mathematics were awarded with:

  • diplomas of the first degree and gold medals at the XV Baltic Science and Engineering Competition (4-7 February-2019, St. Petersburg),
  • diplomas, respectively, the first and third degree for the XXIII republican competition of research papers (conference) of students in astronomy, biology, computer science, mathematics, physics, chemistry.
  • gold and silver medals at the international tournament of young mathematicians in Barcelona (July 1-8, Barcelona, Spain).
