A round table "Khatyn - the pain of the Belarusian people" was held at the Francisk Skorina Gomel State University. Exactly 78 years ago the Nazis and their accomplices carried out one of the most inhuman punitive actions against the civilian population of Belarus, during which 149 residents of the Khatyn village were burned alive or shot, 75 of them were children. A small village has forever become a symbol of the tragedy of the Belarusian people, a mournful page in the history of the Great Patriotic War, which must not be forgotten.

This event, organized by the Department of General History of the Faculty of History of GSU, was dedicated to the preservation of the memory of the terrible events. The participants of the round table were students, undergraduates and university teachers, as well as students of Gomel secondary school No. 37.

The event was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of History Stanislav Cherepko. Yuri Nikityuk, Vice-Rector for Educational Work of GSU, also addressed the meeting participants with a welcoming speech. He noted that every Belarusian family suffered losses in the wartime, therefore, perpetuating the memory of the victims of Nazism is an important task for every Belarusian citizen.

During the meeting, the lecturers of the Faculty of History presented their reports. They spoke not only about the burning of Khatyn by the 118th police battalion, but also about the essence of the occupation regime of the German fascist invaders. Concluding the meeting, a documentary film about Khatyn was shown.
